Orissa collected five points by virtue of taking first-innings lead against Assam in their three-day East Zone Ranji Trophy match which ended in draw at Gauhati Town Club in Gauhati today. Host Assam settled with three points.
Odisha allrounder B Sridhar Alva was the star of the match, scoring his maiden first-class century in the first-innings and an unbeaten half-century in the second. He also shone with the ball, capturing five wickets in the first innings.
KS Ranganna also displayed fine performance for Orissa with both bat and ball. He picked up four wickets and hit 49 in the first innings and followed it with an unbeaten 20 in the second. Orissa took a 40-run first-innings lead by bolwing out Assam for 172 and then compiling 212.
In the second innings, Assam rode on an unbeaten century by MP Barua to declare at 177 for two. In reply, Orissa were 86 for three when the match ended. Govind K Das made his first-class debut for Odisha.
